How to pick a venue and a dress?

It's 2016, we’re getting married! My fiancé proposed to me almost two years ago and it still feels like it was yesterday. There are now only seven months to go and we’ve just begun to REALLY get down to planning the details.

I want to share step-by-step where we are in the planning process, give you some tips and, (hopefully) get some tips in return! As of now, we have the venue which is a gorgeous Spanish villa in Coconut Grove in Miami called Villa Woodbine. When we stepped foot there for the first time, we thought it was going to be WAY out of our budget. Thankfully, it actually ended up being perfect and they do the catering so… BOOM! Venue and catering are done.

That being said, this was not the first and only venue we visited. We went to many, many, venues until we found “the one”.  

Here are a couple of tips when hunting for the perfect venue:

 • Take your time and don’t rush; however,  keep in mind that you should book about a year in advance.

• Look at a couple of venues before getting too excited. I loved 80 percent of the venues, but there was always a “but” and it is very important to listen it.

• Do your research: From online reviews to hotels and lodging nearby for the guests, see what other people are saying. While budget plays a big part, don’t think that just because there is nothing around the venue, it will be cheap. Our venue is very close to downtown Miami with tons of hotel options and it ended up being the best option for us.

• Trust your gut. If you get a bad vibe from the place, just walk away. Remember you are just looking and you are under no obligation.

As some of you know from my Instagram, my fiancé and I spent the holidays up in Maryland with my family. While there,  I went wedding dress shopping with my dad, mom and sister. It made the wedding, the planning and everything leading up to it feel so real! When I walked into the boutique and put on the very first dress, it was indescribable. I wanted to cry, run, jump up and down, but at the same time I was excited – weird, huh? Also seeing my family’s reaction was just beautiful, and yes, lots and lots of tears were involved. I found my dress after about 12 dresses, which I guess it was not that bad. I will be wearing a Pronovias gown. It is everything I ever imagined and I cannot wait for him to see me in my dress! Wedding dress, check!

Here are some tips on choosing a dress:

• If you are not on Pinterest, get on it. For the most part, I had in mind what I wanted. Not down to the details, but generally. Come prepared and the staff at the boutique will be thankful.

• Ask away, and be honest. Again you are not obligated to buy anything. Remember this is THE dress you will be wearing on your wedding day. Be picky, ask, say “no” as many times as you need.

• Plan for alterations. It sure took me by surprise that wedding gown alterations could be up to $500 so… yeah.

Now we are in the process of finding a great DJ or band, wedding cake/dessert vendors, flower vendors and trying to find the perfect dress for my bridesmaids, so if you have any recommendations in Miami, please let me know!

Es el 2016, ¡el año en que nos casamos! Mi prometido me propuso matrimonio hace casi 2 años y aun parece que fue ayer. Ahora solo tenemos siete meses para ahora si planear cada detalle de nuestra boda. 

Voy a compartir con ustedes todo nuestro proceso de planeación de la boda. Les dare tips y recomendaciones ¡y por favor no duden en compartir sus tips conmigo! Por ahora tenemos 2 cosas listas, el sitio y mi vestido. El vestido no se los puedo mostrar, pero el sitio si; se llama Villa Woodbine y esta localizado en Coconut Grove en Miami. Cuando entramos por primera vez pensamos que el sitio iba a estar completamente fuera de nuestro presupuesto pero en realidad fue el que venia mas completo y con un precio relativamente razonable para nosotros. Ellos requieren hacer el catering con ellos así que fue como matar a 2 pájaros con un solo tiro. 

Pero cabe decir que este no fue el único sitio que visitamos. Fuimos a un par hasta que encontramos el sitio perfecto. 

Acá van 4 tips para escoger el sitio de la boda de tus sueños:

• Tomate tu tiempo y dejes que te hagan sentir apurada. Pero, ten en cuenta que la mayoría d los sitios hay que apartarse con un año de anticipación.

 • Es muy importante ver un par de sitios antes de emocionarse mucho. Es muy fácil imaginarse toda la boda en casi todos los sitios, yo ame el 80% de los sitios que vimos pero siempre había un "pero" y ese pero siempre es el mas importante.

• Siempre hay que hace research, y mucho. Desde los reviews online hasta ver cuantos y cuales son los hoteles que hay alrededor. El presupuesto es un aparte esencial pero no pienses que porque el sitio queda en la mitad de la nada va a ser mas económico. Nuestro sitio es a 10 mins de downtown de Miami con muchísimas opciones para hoteles y termino siendo el mas económico para nosotros. 

• ¡Confia en tu intuición! Si no tienes una buena vibra del sitio, simplemente no es es sito y ya. Acuérdate que estas solo buscando, no estas bajo ninguna obligación. 

Como algunos de ustedes vieron en mi Instagram durante las fiestas de navidad ¡encontré mi vestido! Fui con toda mi familia y fue tal vez una de las cosas que hizo la boda aun mas real. Cuando me puse el primer vestido fue una sensación muy rara; quería salir corriendo, llorar, reírme, de todo al mismo tiempo. Y la reacción de mi familia fue increíble, hay muy pocas palabras para describir sus caras. Yo encontré mi vestido después de 12 vestidos, que creo que no es tan grave como he oído de otros casos. Por ahora solo les puedo decir que es un vestido de Pronovias. Es realmente todo lo que me había imaginado desde chiquita y la verdad no puedo espera a ver su cara cuando me vea en el vestido.

Así que acá les dejo 3 tips para la búsqueda de vestido:

• Si no estas en Pinterest, ¿Que estas esperando?. Mayormente yo tenia una idea de lo que quería pero no en detalle ni sabia los nombres de varias cosas. Si te preparas un poco y tienes una idea general la gente de la boutique te lo agradecerán.

• ¡Pregunta, pregunta y sigue preguntando! Acuérdate que no estas obligada a comprar nada y que este es EL vestido que vas a usar el día de tu boda. Se exigente y di "no" cuantas veces lo necesites. 

• Como parte del presupuesto incluye gastos para alteraciones del vestido que pueden llegar a costar $500, yo no lo hice y me sorprendí bastante de cuanto puede llegar a costar. 

Ahora estamos en el proceso de encontrar un DJ o banda, la persona que nos haga el pastel, las flores y el vestido perfecto para mis bridesmaids. Así que si tienen alguna recomendación escríbanlos acá abajo en los comentarios!
