Now that I am almost settled in my new home, it is time to
do wedding talk! What a better time to do it than at the sobremesa? If you have
never heard this word, in Spanish it means the time you spend at the dinner
table after a meal just talking, sipping on some coffee, and making great
memories.
My fiancé’s and my life have been nuts the last couple of
months so it is nice to take a second for us, take a deep breath, sip on some Nescafé coffee and just start diving step by step into our next crazy journey,
our wedding.
A couple of days back we did the second payment on the
venue, and I should be getting my dress in June, but there are SO many things
still to be figured out. Now that we are actually together we get the chance to
discuss vendors, prices, styles, etc.
It is crazy how much taking a tiny break during the day can
make such a big difference. It is almost
a reminder that life happens pretty fast and that we need to enjoy this short
moment of wedding planning. When you are
a together for a couple of years as boyfriend and girlfriend (in my case 11
years) its an extended period of time and you will be married – hopefully- for
years and years to come. But the engagement phase is really a short 1-2 year
period in which you and your partner get to plan one of the most special day in
your lives. Crazy huh? In one blink of an eye, the day will be here and boom!
You are married. So might as well enjoy it.
We joined the Proyecto Sobremesa by Nescafé to give it a try,
and since our wedding planning so far while it has been fun, it has been
minimal. So we wanted to take the sobremesa time to digest this engagement
moment, enjoy it and take things step by step. Someone told us when we were
recently got engaged that no matter what, we were going to have fights about
the wedding. To this day (almost 2 years later) I refuse to believe that is
true. We are creating a family, and a marriage is about compromise. So we have
tried our very best to not argue and just HAVE FUN.
