The decision that can save lives

This past 4th of July I was able to spend some time with my family and I was reminded how much they mean in my life. Because of them and my future family I joined the #PuedeEsperar campaign by AT&T.

A few years back I took the decision that no text message was that important to see it when I am driving. I have also encouraged my friends and family to do the same, and it honestly irritates me when I see someone driving and their eyes are on their phone. It is important that with all the apps and technology now a days, we set our selves limits on when and how to use them. In all honestly when you think about it, is that photo, meme, text, voice note, or what ever it may be really important that you see it in that moment?

It is no secret that us latinos LOVE gossip and to talk all the time but the numbers are just scary to see and none of the things on your phone are worth putting your life and the people around you in danger.

Now that I made the pledge at Puede Esperar, I also downloaded the AT&T app called DriveMode. This app puts your phone in silence when you are driving so that you don't get distracted and tempted to see the incoming tests. What I like the best about it is that it has an auto-reply letting the other person know that you cannot reply in that moment. You can download the app for iPhone or Android.

Este 4 de julio tuve la suerte de compartir con mi familia y me recordó lo mucho que significan en mi vida. Así que por ellos y por mi futura familia decidí unirme a la campaña #PuedeEsperar de AT&T .

Desde hace un par de años tome la decisión que ningún mensaje de texto iba a ser lo suficientemente importante para que lo tenga que ver mientras manejo y por lo mismo he intentado que mis amigos y personas a mi alrededor  también dejen de hacerlo. Es importante que con tantas aplicaciones y plataformas de redes sociales nos establezcamos limites a nosotros mismos. Y si lo piensan de forma sensata, esa foto, meme, mensaje de texto, nota de voz, o lo que sea… ¿creen que es realmente necesario verlo en ese segundo?

El 83% de los hispanos admitimos a usar el celular mientas manejamos, de los cuales 68% están mandando mensajes de texto, 50% están en las redes sociales y el 28% se están tomando selfies o fotos mientras manejan.

Si es cierto que nos encanta el chisme pero estos números son realmente preocupantes y ninguna de esas cosas son mas importantes que las vidas tanto del que está manejando como las de los que los rodean.

Ahora que hice la promesa oficial en Puede Esperar,  también bajé la aplicación de AT&T que se llama DriveMode. Esta aplicación pone en silencio tu teléfono cuando estas manejando así que si te entra algún mensaje de texto, no lo oyes evitando la tentación de mirar tu teléfono y responde automáticamente dejándole saber a la otra persona que estas manejando en ese momento y no puedes responder. Así te puedes enfocar en el camino mientras manejas. Puedes bajar la aplicación acá para tu iPhone o Android.
