How To Style The Not-So-Basic Dress

Photography by: Angel Torres

Seems like it was yesterday when we were sipping on rosé next to the pool or sailing away on lake Minnetonka. Oh summer! you truly when by just too fast to digest you in all your glory. Or maybe it's just me since well, I live in the midwest right next to Canada. Each summer second here is cherished and used to the max, but I do have to say that I was surprised of how much Minnesotans complain about the heat.

Apparently, Labor Day weekend is like a timely schedule for the weather and fall is definitely upon us. I didn't get to wear all my fun summer dresses but it is warm enough to wear them with layers. And I love layers! I wanted to have fun and be a little risky so I paired this pink dress which is anything but basic with this cropped denim jacket which also makes quite a statement.

At first I thought together was too much but then I thought, so what? I think too often we are too afraid of loud pieces and I wanted to try these two and I actually liked them! The beauty in fashion is experimenting and we don't really have to stick to "rules" or "trends" all the time; sometimes it is a great idea to create your own rules, bend them and break them. That way we can discover our own style.

When I saw this dress I thought it was a little too girly, so I wanted to add a some edge to the look. But I loved that it worked with these booties and jacket and it is a given that it will also work with a delicate pair of sandals. So I hope I can inspire you to take some risks and play with some pieces together, maybe you end up liking the combinations!
