My Take On Corporate Dressing

Photography by: Emily Voss

You all know that I don't dress up for work. I dress up for event, and those are blogger events which are very different from "regular people" definition of dressing up.

I was invited to attend a Diversity & Inclusion conference in Las Vegas last week. Maybe you were following me along on my Instagram stories, maybe you weren't. To give you a little background; I am a creative person and the thought of dressing up literally makes my skin crawl. Have you been there? when thinking corporate dressing is as boring as a gray or black pantsuit and thats about all you get to wear all week long? Gross!

Although I work at a corporation, I work on the creative side of said corporation. So the way we dress on this side of the building it is very different from the rest. When I was invited to the conference seemed like such a great opportunity as I am starting a new role at my job that has more to do with Multicultural creative (but thats an entire other blog post that I may have to do). Also, I have never been to Las Vegas, so I said yes immediately. And then it hit me, WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO WEAR?! this was a corporate conference... a cor-po-rate con-fe-rence! I've never been to one and it had me like a deer in headlights.

I did some intense research on Pinterest, went back to all my favorite fashion bloggers that I've been following for years and came up with 2 outfits (that's all I needed) that I felt comfortable in and that were still appropriate for the occasion. This was my favorite; I got this super lightweight military blazer a couple of weeks back and I had been playing with it on my mind but had not really been able to use it. I paired it with these black harem pants and these simple neutral mules.

As always, the key for me is to be comfortable. High heels were out of the question; there was no way I was going to be walking back and forth between talks for 8 hours and I am not a pant suit kind of girl.

While harem pants are not really a thing anymore, I still do love these pair. The dropped crotch is not too obvious but still there and the fabric is OH SO COMFY! it was like going to the conference in my jammies but I looked cute. I really do think that for 95% of the outfits the accessories is what makes it, and this outfit proves it. Nude simple mules, a nice neutral bag, a pop of color on the earrings and a nice military jacket to pull the look together.
