Celebrating my 30th birthday like a 30 year old should

My fiancé and I were born in the same week. As a matter of fact, we were born one day apart (and one year), so we always make a week out if it and use our birthdays as a legit excuse to get away from everything.

As I mentioned to you all before, we developed a tradition of traveling for our birthdays. This year, since we are getting married and we need to save some money, we decided to stay here in Miami and celebrate with our closest friends.

My fiancé’s family – and my future family –gifted us a spa day at Enliven, the JW Marriot Miami’s spa. In case you are ever in Miami and want to have an amazing, relaxing day, check out my review.
Swim Suit: CupShe    |    Sunglasses: Sunglass Spot    |    Hat: Small business in Cartagena, Colombia
As soon as we arrived, we were immediately greeted by their very friendly staff who guided us to the relaxation lounge and showed us around. We had scheduled a couple’s massage, so we changed into our robes and sandals and headed to the couple’s suite. I had a male masseuse and he had a female. The lights were dimmed  and it was a cozy suite.

With all the wedding stress, save-the-dates sent and no responses, dealing with work and a million other things, life can get a bit hectic. This was the best treat and gift we could have ever had!

The massage was incredible – a  full-body experience. God bless the masseuses because they are truly unbelievable. At times I could not help but think “wait that hurts, ouch, ou …. Oh… oh wait that feels good.” It went on for the whole hour I was laying there. One of the biggest pet peeves that I have is being touched; I hate people getting near me and I freak out when someone that I don’t know touches me, so I was a bit mortified to think that I was getting a massage. What started as a somewhat stressful experience turned into one of complete and total relaxation.. Having my fiancé around, definitely helped make me feel more comfortable and enjoy the experience.

All in all, we LOVED our massages and, from what we gathered, we were lucky to have the best therapists at the spa! After the massage, both of our masseuses waited outside for us with a glass of cucumber water. What a cherry on top! The rest of the day was spent at the pool relaxing in the sun with some yummy food. . The only downside to the pool is that by 3 pm the sun is obscured by surrounding buildings. A bummer, but still an enjoyable time. By 6 o’clock, we headed home feeling refreshed and pampered.

Thanks to the amazing spa, pool and hotel staff for such a great day and accommodating every single one of our needs! But mostly, thank you to my in-laws and my brother in-law and his wife for the amazing gift of a day of relaxation.

So here is our ratings:

  7. I will be turning 31 in July. But last year was my first massage. I went with my sister. And I am just like you. I hate being touched by strangers. But I went and told them I wanted soft...unfortunately I had so many knots in my shoulders and back that not only did I leave super sore but they also gave me recommendations for a chiropractor and masseuse lol. I was also told I should see a Dr lol. I was sore for 4 days after! I never went back lol. I keep telling myself that maybe I didn't get a good masseuse lol.
